Maldives Islamic Bank Signs MoU with Crossroads Maldives to Support Coral Propagation and Reef Restoration

By Mohamed Shabhaan

Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB) has entered into an Agreement with Crossroads Maldives to collaborate on a coral propagation and reef restoration project aimed at protecting and revitalizing marine ecosystems within the Crossroads lagoon.

The MoU was signed by Mr. Mufaddal Idris Khumri, Managing Director of Maldives Islamic Bank, and Mr. Alexander Traeger, General Manager of SAii Lagoon Maldives, Curio Collection by Hilton, and Crossroads Marina, on behalf of Crossroads Maldives.

In a truly unique and symbolic gesture, the agreement was signed underwater in the same lagoon where the coral propagation efforts will be carried out — reflecting both organizations’ deep commitment to environmental sustainability and marine conservation.

The initiative, part of MIB’s ongoing corporate social responsibility efforts, underscores the Bank’s dedication to supporting projects that promote environmental protection, community awareness, and sustainable development across the Maldives.

Through this collaboration, MIB and Crossroads Maldives aim to contribute meaningfully to the preservation of Maldivian reefs — a vital component of the nation’s natural heritage and economy.
